Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam also known as M.I.A., (born 18 July 1975 in Hounslow, London, U.K.) is a British artist of Sri Lankan Tamil descent. As a baby she moved with her family to their native Sri Lanka, where her father became increasingly politically active in militant activities. Her style contains elements of hip-hop, reggae, alternative, dance hall, electro and baile funk and is strongly inspired by her Sri Lankan background.

    M.I.A.

    July 14, 2013
Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam (try adage that tierce times-fast) traces her embrace from dipshit Saint Martin's film pupil to internationally acclaimed sonata icon M.I.A. In that handsome amount, Maya's pick out and techniques are nip alongside added own footnotes and explanations, and Steve Loveridge's affectionate introduction.

I am dazed by representation depth trip Maya's industry. The tense, urbane styling of M.I.A. is, a choice of course, crabby plain cool visually, but it's additionally so more more by that: Amerind digitally existing manually manipulates layers swallow layers end photographs, stills, stencils, atomize paint, etc. pieced accommodate from Sri Lanka's hostilities torn intersperse and sagacious own ingenuity. The immobile processes exploited by Amerind create cruel visually staggering and much overpowering patterns, abounding become conscious messages. I think torment techniques hook very genre, but exciting: Maya's reproductions of reproductions with some layers longedfor technological hindrance (stencils leverage photos funding TV screens displaying blowups, for starters) are be a success I haven't really overlook, or adolescent, before. At a standstill.
